SPIRITS

Inspired by an odd period of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Miyazaki movies.

This piece has a number of odd design choices, mainly because it started off as just me practicing feet and hands. Random as it might sound, one of the most resonating lessons I learned in art school was from an instructor how constantly drilled into us: “DRAW THE DAMN FEET!”. Nothing caught his ire more than a character design or layout that seemed to end at a character’s ankles. Not even even half-assed bananas (as he would describe them) at the end of the legs worked.

Feet have a specific (if complicated) shape. Are the ones here perfect? No. But with effort but into the basic anatomy they can make great shapes to compliment a composition.
